We all know that Mike Myer’s latest opus has been panned by critics, shunned by Hindus and other religious figures, and performed dreadfully in the box office. The question: did Jessica Alba’s acting fare better than the film’s reviews? Below are few of the reviews I found online. Unfortunately, most of them insulted our fave actress’ thespian prowess =(
- Jessica Alba, naturally, is all pouty lips, toothy grin… and little else. She’s like a void where a viable actress belongs.
- Jane is played with earnest emptiness by the prettiest Box Office Poison in the world, Jessica Alba.
- I’d say that Jessica Alba is a bad actress in “Love Guru,” except that she never actually acts. She just stands there, looking pretty. She makes Heather Graham in “The Spy Who Shagged Me” look like Meryl Streep

05 Jul 2008 || US Bishops Call 'Love Guru' Rude & Vulgar
And no, this is not from the Hindus who have been lambasting the movie since its production began, it’s from the Catholic bishops! Guess Jessica Alba’s latest foray into comedy isn’t really religion-friendly! The Hindus have previously said that “The Love Guru” lampoons Hinduism, mocks Ashram life and Hindu philosophy. The review of United States Catholic Bishops’ Conference’s Office for Film and Broadcasting, on the other hand, said it is “unabashedly vulgar and tasteless despite its saccharine ending and some moderately redemptive elements.” Oh well, at least its good news for Jessica Alba and Mike Myers that the movie has some redemptive values!
The bishops’ review continued that the comedy has “much sexual and scatological humor and innuendo, some crude language, adultery and an implied premarital relationship, drug references and comic violence.” They rated it “O,” given to morally offensive films. The review said one would feel the movie “too long by half” and “the jibes at celebrity and bogus Indian mysticism wear thin.” The review ends with: “The Love Guru” is a flat comedy, only fitfully enlivened by some clever gags, about a guru (Mike Myers) enlisted by the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team (Jessica Alba) to reunite their star player (Romany Malco) with his wife (Meagan Good) who has left him for his rival (Justin Timberlake), the goalie for the opposing team, thereby restoring the former player’s prowess on the ice.

That’s what the rumor-mongers are whispering! Rose McGowan was the actress formerly being touted to lead the Barbarella remake but she and Robert Rodriguez (director of Grindhouse, Sin City and From Dusk Till Dawn) broke up — and this is where Jessica Alba came in. Rose and Robert an affair during the filming of Grindhouse in 2006, and the director began pushing studios to make her lead actress in 3 of his upcoming movies. Unfortunately for the sexy actress, the relationship went sour. The studio financing the $70 million Barbarella remake, once worried that Rose McGowan didn’t have enough box-office drawing power, is now considering Jessica Alba for the titular character.
Barbarella is a 1968 erotic sci-fi film (according to WikiPedia!) and is famous for a sequence in which the title character, played by Jane Fonda, undresses in zero gravity during the opening credits. The whole film is played in a tongue-in-cheek manner especially when it comes to the frequent (but non-explicit) sex scenes. The most controversial of those scenes involves Barbarella being “tortured” by use of a machine that gives sexual pleasure in doses that can be lethal.

And praised by a name expert at that! Guess the name “Honor” is really nice huh?? Kudos to Jessica Alba and boohoo to her critics! Hehe! Our fave actress has not yet formally announced her daughter’s birth or name, but her brother Josh revealed the birth details to E! News after she gave birth. He has said his new niece - who was born on Saturday - is “gorgeous”, and Jessica Alba and their family couldn’t be happier with her arrival =)
Pamela Redmond Satran, co-author of baby-naming guides Cool Names and The Baby Name Bible, said: “Honor is one of the Puritan Virtue names that has been making a comeback along with sisters Hope, Faith and Charity. Nothing new there since our favorite actress has previously said she won’t be her child’s bestfriend, hehe!! Monster-mom in the making?? Not Jessica Alba! She’ll just be practicing tough love =) According to Romany Malco, her co-star in Love Guru, “The baby isn’t getting away with nothing.” LOL! Poor Honor Marie! I wonder if Cash Warren will have ANY say on how their daughter will grow up.
Another Love Guru cast member, Meagan Good, said Jessica Alba will probably be “strict and,`This is the way things go.’ But I think that’s great for a kid.” Great for the kid but will the kid think it’s great? Hehe! Jessica Alba’s stunt double, Taryn Dakha, on the other hand said: “She’ll be a tough mom but she’s a phenomenal mother.” Well, I just hope that Honor Marie will love her mother for the tough love. Most children don’t get it. I sure didn’t! Hehe!

If her mother, Jessica Alba, had her way that is. While most celebrity parents would love their kids to be on the Hollywood spotlight as well, our fave actress is adamant that her baby daughter won’t be doing show business. Man, that would be a loss to the entertainment industry in the future! For sure, Honor Marie will be a beautiful and sexy actress like her mom =) Here’s what Jessica Alba replied when asked if she’d allow her baby to be an actress: “No! Hell, no! Absolutely not. The life that I had, it was for a reason. There was nothing else for me to do. There was something that I saw at a very young age, and there was a reason why I made such a bold decision early on.” So what does Jessica Alba had in mind for Honor Marie then? She says, “My kid’s going to grow up really differently, with a lot more opportunities, especially educational opportunities and a different kind of financial stability that I just didn’t have.”

The Love Guru actress has been one of the most responsible actresses ever to hit Hollywood in a long while. Jessica Alba has no scandals, doesn’t party that much, hasn’t been arrested for DUI, doesn’t do drugs, etc, etc. Such a good role model for the young chicks out there right? But for her, it isn’t enough. Now that Jessica Alba has a young girl of her own, she is trying to be more responsible than ever. And in a green way! Here’s what our fave actress told Estylo magazine: “I also think about how I’m more—as much as I can, I have a green mentality about stuff and I’m a lot more eco-conscious. I’m somebody who is trying to be as “green” as possible with my car, my consumer habits.”

And whatever our fave actress wants to learn, she’ll definitely be able to! =) Unlike Honor Marie, the actress’ first child, Jessica Alba didn’t have the chance to learn Spanish. Her parents thought it would be best if she’ll speak English only to fit in their Americana neighborhood. But Cash Warren, also with Mexican roots, Jessica Alba now wants to keep their Spanish her heritage alive through their daughter, Honor Marie. A friend of the actress told OK! –
“Jessica Alba wants to try to brush up on her language skills so that she can start speaking Spanish at home in front of Honor. She knows that her own Spanish skills are not what they should be, and while she’s always under a lot of criticism, she is trying to make amends for that and do what’s right for her baby.”
